This opening title sequence for the film The Lives of Others was created as a graduate motion project.


Context & Considerations

Incorporating archival images from the Stasi’s operations, this title sequence provides historical background for the viewer and highlights the secretive nature of the film.

Winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (2006), The Lives of Others is a German drama/thriller set in 1984 East Berlin. The film follows a writer and his lover who are under surveillance by the German Democratic Republic’s secret police, known as the Stasi.
